AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Theme of the Year:
The Importance of Islamic Education: Our Children are our most prized possessions".
The Importance of Education in Islam: Ibn Mas'ud (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (swt) said: The position of only two people are enviable; the person whom Allah bestowed wealth empowering him to spend it in the way of righteousness, and the person whom Allah gave wisdom with which he adjudges and which he teaches to others.
Islamic Lecture & Fundraising Iftar
Islamic Lecture: "Sadaqah Jariyah"
by Br. Nurdeen Lawal
Jazakumullahukhairan to our sponsors, parents, staff, students, and friends of UAIS for making the Islamic Lecture and Fundraising Iftar a success!
We raised $5,000 from the auction, and a generous donor matched our fundraising collection, then doubled the amount to $10,000. This brings our collection to $15,000. Allahu akbar!
A special thanks to our guest speaker, Br. Nurdeen Lawal, who inspired us to give sadaqah jariyah, for the sake of Allah. May Allah (swt) reward our collective effort with increased iman and taqwa, and a focused desire to increase beneficial knowledge to please Him.
The Prophet (saw) said,
"O Son of Adam, if you spend from that extra you have been given (beyond your basic needs), it will be much better for you. If you withhold it, it will be bad for you. There is no blame upon you if you have just what is sufficient for your needs, but know that the upper hand (which gives in charity) is better than the lower hand."
Staff Development for Educators (SDE) 2013
On July 19-24, 2013, UAIS K-12 teachers attended the SDE 2013 Extraordinary Conference in Chicago. Our teachers were given top notch training and resources by experts in education for immediate implementation in the classrooms.
Please congratulate Fatema Abuhamda and Salsabil Daud who were accepted to the Hospital Hill Health Science Academy at UMKC this summer.
"This academy is designed for students who have an interest in Dentistry, Nursing, or a Pharmacy career. The week will be full of fun and learning as students explore various health science careers, educational pathways, increased math and science skills, cultural diversity and hands-on activities in all three career fields. The overnight camp will run from Monday June 10th through Friday, June 14th. There were many qualified applicants for the Hospital Hill Health Science Summer Camp and space is limited to accepting only 60 students."
